Component 1: Developing a transformative theory of change for a sociotechnical system
Grounded in sustainability transitions research, Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) thinking contends that to solve the severe and complex social and environmental challenges of our age, we need a ‘systemic’ understanding of society and a transformative theory of change that does not rely only on policy or technological innovation.
The tools and resources in Component 1 are focused on developing this theory of change for a sociotechnical system, and are spread across four sections. They out how a systemic understanding of meeting social needs, viewed through the lens of transitions theory and anticipatory thinking, can help us to reframe our perception of change and to identify key areas, activities and programmes for policy experimentation towards transformative change.
