Workshop report: TIP value to strategic innovation programs

This reports describes a workshop in 2022, in which TIPC and Vinnova teams – together with strategic partners such as the Swedish Energy Agency, Technopolis, the Government Offices, the Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development (Formas), and the Swedish Agency for Growth Policy Analysis – explored how Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) can support the design and implementation of next-generation strategic innovation programmes.

The workshop brought together policy practitioners and researchers to reflect on how such programmes can address complex societal challenges by moving beyond traditional innovation policy approaches orientated towards economic growth and technological development.

The report highlights the potential value of TIP principles – such as experimentation, policy learning, collaboration among diverse actors, and a focus on systemic change – in strengthening strategic innovation programmes and captures participants’ reflections on how these programmes can contribute to broader sustainability transitions.
